What if you waited just five seconds before deciding whether something was good or bad?
In today's episode of Encore Living, I share an ancient Taoist parable about a farmer who responds to every twist of fortune with one simple word: “Maybe.”
Inspired by Michael Singer's The Untethered Soul, I explore how quickly we label our experiences, and what might happen if we created a little more space between an event and our judgment about it.
It's not about ignoring what happens or forcing yourself to think positively. It's about becoming more aware of your thoughts and recognizing that not everything needs an immediate interpretation.
Today's invitation: Try the five-second pause. The next time something happens, notice your impulse to label it. Then ask yourself: Do I really need to decide what this means right now?
Sometimes five seconds can make all the difference.
