The self-help industry in America was worth over 11 billion dollars in 2019. Seminars, courses, life and business coaches are some of the ways gurus get you to part with your money to 'reach your best self.'Not to disparage the industry, but I would argue there is a cheaper way, free in-fact, if one really wants to improve their intellectual self. It is called reading. When I say read, I don't mean Instagram captions, forum posts, book summaries, or 300-word blog posts. I mean real books. It may sound simple, but it works. In fact, research on your brain and intellectual activity when reading is nearly infallible and indisputable. In our busy, multi-tasking world, people are reading less. Although the benefits are profound. These include improved analytical skills, knowledge acquisition, reduced stress, ability to focus and concentrate on tasks better, greater emotional intelligence, a greater sense of internal peace, and even improve or build new neural pathways in the brain.Reading is a simple, yet powerful, activity for your intellectual growth. This podcast discusses the power of reading.
