How we perceive things in life often limit and constrict our potential. Plato’s 'Allegory of the Cave' in Book VII of "The Republic" is one of the most well-known philosophical fables in history. The basic premise is as old as humanity-- can and how do humans perceive reality, how is reality shaped, and whether there is an existence greater than the average, work-a-day world contrived by society. The fact is most people get trapped into limiting their potential. Most fail to go beyond the social constructs of conformity. Far too many get duped into believing the dogma of a political party or other institutions. Modern society is most efficient when most people conform to what those in power want. In our modern world, when confronted with opinions and perceptions outside of their own limiting beliefs, too many people resort to ignoring, invalidating, or silencing without exploring all possibilities with open-mindedness. It is a very human and natural tendency. Plato challenges us to not be put into a box of group-speak, settling for average, and to push beyond the mental prison we tend to ensnare ourselves. This podcast discusses the 'Allegory of the Cave,' and how each of us can push ourselves beyond limiting beliefs to mental freedom.
