Summary: Lots of drugs have moved from prescription to OTC status:  proton pump inhibitors (Prilosec), Histamine 2 blockers (Prevacid), antihistamine eye drops, Hydrocortisone 1% cream…. For this to happen, the question that must be answered is this:  can the drug be used safely and effectively, relying only on the drug labeling?  The above-mentioned drugs have passed this test.  This episode will discuss another switch, the first OTC oral contraceptive:  Opill.
