1 Samuel 25:10–19 NIV

Today we start a mini series on Abigail’s leadership. We would be learning the leadership traits that enabled her to avert danger and David killing her family.

When Nabal’s servants told Abigail how Nabal treated David’s men, Abigail responded urgently: she gathered different food items (which Nabal should have given David’s men) and headed straight to David.

Why?

She had the gift of foresight.

What is foresight?

Foresight is the ability to correctly judge what is going to happen in the future and plan your actions based on this knowledge. (source: Cambridge Dictionary)

Abigail had the gift of foresight, which is a key leadership trait. Yes, Abigail was warned by the servant, but she also knew not to take the matter lightly. She was able to see and understand the impending catastrophic consequences if she didn’t act immediately. By doing so, she was able to spare her family a horrific incident. If she had missed this, her family (those she was leading) would have paid with their lives.

It is important to have the gift of foresight.

Prayer: Lord, grant us the gift of foresight as we lead ourselves and others. In Jesus Name. Amen🙏🏼🙏🏼
