1 Samuel 25:18–19, 27

Today’s emphasis is on giving. We would see the way giving gifts is able to turn hardened hearts. But it is important to highlight here that giving is not limited to monetary value; it includes time, effort, prayer, expertise, encouragement, love, and the list goes on.

Abigail sensed that David must be angry given Nabal’s behaviour towards his men. She acted swiftly and hurried to meet David to evade impending danger for her family. But she did not go empty-handed. She brought with her food items, specifically items that she knew David and his men would need to survive in the wilderness. The gifts were so significant because they were exactly what Nabal should have given to David’s men previously.

The Bible says in Proverbs 21:14 TPT

“Try giving a secret gift to the one who is angry with you and watch his anger disappear. A kind, generous gift goes a long way to soothe the anger of one who is livid.”

She literally acted as the verse says above; she also gave gifts of encouragement and prayers that soothed his heart, and she literally watched David’s anger disappear, and the same David who was determined to kill her family was thanking her for stopping him.

She gave David exactly what he needed. As simple as giving, maybe we do need the leading of the Holy Spirit to be able to know the perfect gift to give people. Ask him today! especially in this season of giving!
