Genesis 49:8–12, 1 Samuel 18:14 NIV
In today’s message, we step back to the time when Jacob spoke his last words—blessings and curses—to his sons before he passed. We look at the tribe of Judah, where David arose from, and the tribe of Benjamin, where Saul came from.
The words of Jacob were clearly reflected in David’s life. He was victorious in the battles he fought, starting with Goliath and especially undefeated by Saul, a Benjamite. He also won the praise of the people of Israel. As Jacob said, the sceptre (of royalty, which refers to authority and sovereignty) shall not depart from Judah. This word, in due time, came to pass as David soon became king of Israel (and also with the coming of Jesus). So could it be that 10 generations before David was born, He from the tribe of Judah was ordained to rule Isreal? And it was impossible for Saul to defeat him? Definitely so! It had been set since the stone of time!
This just shows that God’s word will surely come to pass. Everything has already been determined; hold on to His word and praise Him!
