1 Samuel 23:13–19
David has been through a lot on the journey of running away from Saul. At this time, he was hiding in the wilderness of Ziph. Jonathan went to David with words of encouragement to strengthen him in this tough time. “And helped him find strength in God.”
Let us remember that Saul was also angry with Jonathan because he sided with David; the Bible says he hurled a spear at him, so Jonathan was going through stuff too. But instead of focusing on him, he went to the bush against many odds to encourage David. He may not have given the solution, but he reinforced God's word to David and helped him find strength, which was extremely important for David to continue the journey in this tough season.
I want to implore us today, this very day, to encourage someone who needs it. As you read this, you would remember people—encourage them! Yes, we all need encouragement, but let’s focus on others, pray for them, remind them of God's word, and help them find strength in God.
I know how encouragement feels at the Nick of time. It can be like a glass of cold water in the desert. Let us be a source of encouragement to people around us. Those words can see them through tough times; It does go a long way.
