Genesis 47:13–14 NIV
Joseph was a man of integrity.
He who is faithful in little, is also faithful in much (Luke 16:10).
In our passage today, Joseph was in charge of the storehouse of Egypt, and as the famine became severe, the Egyptians used all the money to purchase food from him, which meant he was holding the wealth of Egypt, Canaan, and other nations that came for food. That would be so much money to hold! And when the time was right, he gathered all the wealth and took it to Pharaoh's house, not taking a dime from it! Given that Joseph had stopped accounting for the grains stored during the abundance season, no one would have probably noticed if he took something aside for himself. Joseph had been tested through the various seasons and was faithful in the little. As such, much was given to him, and he continued to portray the character.
Integrity is character and has been a topical issue in both the government and private sectors. Everyone wants to have relationships, - business or personal, with someone trustworthy, yet at the same time wants to cut corners, or be “street smart”.
Integrity is so important, and it cuts across what happens in the secret place, when no one is watching. It is not always likeable or even the norm–just like Joseph’s brothers hated Joseph when he kept reporting them for wrong doings is the same way we can sometimes be secluded when we choose integrity.
God, give us the strength to have integrity in all we do.
