1 Samuel 18:1–4 NIV
We’ve been discussing how God used Jonathan as a help to David in tough times, and today we will look at how important Jonathan was in his journey.
Jonathan was heir to the throne; he not only saved David from Saul but also seeded the throne to him, neglecting his position as heir to the throne. Saul was fighting David constantly to retain the throne after God rejected him as king, yet the heir to that throne had already surrendered it to David, so no matter what Saul did, David had to be king.
If God had not put David and Jonathan on the same path, the battle for the throne would have been between both of them, not even Saul. But God aligned everything in such a way that David did not have to go through that long process of battles in Saul’s family.
On our part, we may be wondering about our future and about the next thing, but God has already gone ahead and prepared everything to fall in line for us, according to His mighty plans for us.
