1 Samuel 20:18–23, 35 NIV

God had anointed David to be king, so he knew that one day he would be king of Israel. In preparation for the position, David has served Sail diligently. He had done every task Saul had given him, more successfully than expected. He always showed up. He was combining fighting battles with playing the lyre! He did everything! But with all he did, Saul was not pleased and still sought to kill him. So imagine how David feels when he has to leave all his successes, family, possessions—everything—behind. He wasn’t even able to take a sword with him!

That would have been hard and painful. Especially knowing he didn’t do anything to warrant Saul killing him. As the Bible writes, “David wept the most”.

He was separated from the people he was anointed to rule and from winning battles! He may have wondered, How will I possibly be king at this point? But we know God's ways are not our ways. Neither His thoughts nor ours. Even though God sent David away to preserve his life, God's magnificent wisdom was the final training he needed to become king. Another similar example is Joseph’s experience in prison just before he became prime minister.

Sometimes a separation is required to prepare us for whatever God has given us. It may be very hard, like David or Joseph’s situation. But that will equip us for the plans God has prepared for us.

Don’t stop; keep going. You never walk alone.

𝙅𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙨 is a short clip intended to grow and equip us in our trust walk with God. The current focus is on life’s seasons.
