1 Samuel 21:1–6, 10–13 NIV
David was going through a tough season after being separated from the palace. In this season, among other things, God was correcting his character—deception. This started with God showing him who he was in situations.
We see from the scripture today that David deceived Ahimelech; he mentioned that the king had sent him on a confidential mission and also acted as if he was mad to the king of Gath when they sang his praises (when fear took over). Both were within a very short period of time. God was highlighting this character flaw to him.
Did David take the correction? Well, that same trait manifested years later when he was king: he slept with Uriah’s wife, and in fear to cover up, he first tried to push the pregnancy on Uriah, but when that didn’t work, it led him to his death. What does David’s attitude in that situation remind us of? Saul! Hmm—full circle ⭕️
It takes God to show us ourselves. Just like in the case of David, God saw the Uriah situation happening in the future and was trying to correct it by highlighting it to him. So when God shows us character flaws we need to work on, let us be humble and work on them in private. Let God heal and correct us in the hiding place, because when the shining comes, the light will shine on every single thing—nothing hidden—the good and the bad.
God help us.
