Discernment is the ability to perceive, understand, and judge things clearly, especially those that are not straight-forward. It is not only the ability to differentiate between good and bad, but also the ability to differentiate the God way from the good.
This was one of the abilities Abigail possessed. She knew exactly what to do at every point in time that yielded the right results. She knew what to bring along to David to appease him, how to approach him humbly, and more importantly, the encouraging words and prayers that persuaded David to change his mind that was set on killing Nabalβs household.
Discernment is a very powerful gift that is so helpful in all areas of our lives so we can perceive, understand, and judge things clearly. And we are able to differentiate between good ideas and God.
