Genesis 42:33, 34, 36, 38, 43:1–2 NIV
When the famine in the land was severe, Jacob asked his sons to go get some more food from Egypt. But the brothers told Jacob that the governor of Egypt requested to see Benjamin; Jacob refused to let Benjamin go because of what he experienced with Joseph. His actions cost them another period of famine, which could have been avoided if he had just obeyed in the first instance.
He later obeyed, but it did cost them. Immediate obedience is very key, as it can save us a lot of wasted time and stress. It may not be easy or convenient to obey or let go when needed, but it is always best when we do.
Even when we don’t understand what is going on at that moment, we should trust that God knows best. And at the end, we will always be glad we did.
Obedience is better than sacrifice!
