1 Samuel 16:19–23 NIV
David found his way into the Palace of Saul by playing the Lyre. He became Saul's right-hand man, and Saul loved him. David needed to be at the palace in preparation for becoming king of Israel. We would find out later how much rigour he went through that season to get ready for the position.
A season of preparation is necessary, and the journey to the throne may not be what we anticipate, but it will be the best way to learn. David went through a lot in this phase, as Saul sought to kill him many times. But we now see in hindsight in David’s life that the rigour was necessary for his position as King of Isreal.
