1 Samuel 22:1–5

David was on the run; at this point, his family and those connected to him had been in the cave of Adullam, hiding from Saul. Saul shortly after had ordered the killing of 85 priests of Nob because Ahmilech helped David. Looking at this, they were literally in the fire -  a life-or-death situation, and the pressure would have been insane! But you see, despite the pressure he would have been under, the Bible still says that he was patiently waiting for God.

“Please let my father and my mother come [out of Judah] and stay with you until I know what God will do for me.”
1 Samuel 22:3 AMP

Even in the pressure cooker, David was still patiently waiting for what God would do for him.  David was indeed after God's own heart, regardless of the pressure! That is admirable!

Even though David’s reaction seemed as if it didn’t make sense, for example, you are on the run, which required action, but you are patiently waiting for God’s response. I can just imagine the comments that would have been coming through from people around him. But on reflection, he couldn’t have made a better decision than to patiently wait on God regardless of the pressure.

Pressurised situations can push us to take immediate actions or reactions out of fear. We feel the urgency, and we believe if we don't, the worst will happen. It’s like a very strong force pushing us to react to it, and in these situations, the devil takes advantage and begins to pump thoughts into our minds to amplify the situation. But the best response, even in those situations, as we have seen from the example of David, is to follow God’s leading. God, help us to patiently discern how he is leading us in these situations in Jesus name. Amen.
