1 Samuel 23:1-6
Prepared to battle with the Philistines in Kielah, David inquired of the Lord, Should I go and attack the Philistines? God said yes. But around David were men who were terrified for their lives. They said to David, Here in Judah, we are afraid. How much more then, if we go... Obviously, this brewed doubts, and David went to inquire of the Lord again! And God confirmed His word to David.
I love David’s heart! This is a man who battled the Philistines more than once and won by a mile! Even with all his previous victories, he still asked God. Should I go? He didn’t do it in his own strength; after all, it’s not the first time. He could have thought—I can replicate the victory on my own… Indeed He was a man after Gods own Heart.
When in doubt, perhaps events have happened that make one feel unsure—did God really really say? Or was it me? Remember, we can and should ask God for confirmation so we follow the path he is leading us through. And remember, God wants us to go on the right path more than we think we do!
