1 Samuel 22:9–18
When Saul found out that David was helped by Ahimelech, the priest, he got so grieved that he ordered the priests to be killed. Doeg the Edomite went over and beyond and even killed their families—women, infants, animals, etc. I wondered, why? Ahimelech did not know that David was on the run as the king accused him, yet he was killed, and the whole land of Nob was wiped out.
This tragic occurrence made me wonder, God, why did this happen? Why did God not protect the priest as he protected David? But then, upon research, I went back in the scripture and found out that God cursed the descendants of Eli as Eli’s sons treated offerings with contempt and made the people sin. One of the courses was that they and their descendants would be cut off in their prime.
This was a word spoken for four generations before still coming to pass. Words transcend generations.
I know this is not an example we want to hear, but this is an example that shows that God's word does transcend generations. But I am also thankful to God that we are in the era of mercy! Thankful for the Cross!
