For the next six Bible study weeks (including this week), we will explore the Reformed doctrine of T.U.L.I.P. - Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and Perseverance of the Saints. That is a typical five-point T.U.L.I.P. acrostic, but some, like Dr. James White, have argued that there should be six points. While the early reformers arguably had a high view of God, Christians in the 21st century often do not. It is why proponents of this doctrine have suggested a six-point be added titled "Sovereignty of God". That is why we begin our discussion of T.U.L.I.P. with this point. It is essential that we get our understanding of God correct before we can come to understand anything else about Him and what He has done for us.
Some do not like the idea of talking doctrinally, and even more, have come to dislike the teachings of John Calvin. Perhaps you are one of these people. Perhaps you do not like the connotations that Calvin's name has amongst his opponents. However, I urge you to just listen to the arguments, the points, and the discussions that we will have over the coming Bible study weeks. Pray about these topics so that God will give you understanding and clarity on these things.
