Exodus 33:12-14 (NIV) Moses said to the Lord, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.’

If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.”

The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

 

√ PEACE – God’s presence quiets the chaos in my heart and gives me true rest.

Mark 4:39 (NIV) He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

Peace isn’t the absence of storms, it’s the presence of Jesus in the storm.


Psalm 4:8 (NIV) In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.

 

√ STRENGTH – When I wait on Him, He renews my strength for what’s ahead.

II Corinthians 12:9 (NLT) Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

Isaiah 40:31 (TLB) They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Wait: qavah: to twist or bind together, as in making a rope.

 

√ IDENTITY – Rest reminds me I am defined by God’s presence, not by my performance.

Luke 15:21-22 (NIV) The son said to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.”

22 But the father said to his servants, “Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.”

Galatians 2:20 (NIV) I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

REST REDIFINED

 

I. CREATE SPACE FOR PEACE.

Psalm 46:10 (NIV) Be still, and know that I am God.


II. START EACH DAY WALKING IN GOD’S MERCY AND GRACE.

Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV) Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

III. REST IN WHO GOD SAYS YOU ARE.

1 John 3:1 (NIV) See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
