Sunday, November 12th - Way of The Wise Pt. 1
Pastor Wes Morris
Proverbs 4:7 (NIV) The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.
√ We believe our way is the best way.
√ We are resistant to change.
√ We choose what feels good instead of what is good.
I Kings 3:7-12 (NIV) Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number.
So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart.
A DISCERNING HEART
Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right. - Charles Spurgeon
I. BEGINS WITH HUMILITY.
Proverbs 11:2 (NIV) When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
Proverbs 18:12 (ESV) Before destruction a man's heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.
II. QUICK TO LISTEN.
James 1:19 (NIV) My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
III. SURRENDERED TO THE WILL OF GOD.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
