Win At Home Pt. 3 | May 7, 2023

Pastor Wes Morris

I Samuel 18:1-9 (NLT) After David had finished talking with Saul, he met Jonathan, the king’s son. There was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David. From that day on Saul kept David with him and wouldn’t let him return home. And Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, because he loved him as he loved himself.

5 Whatever Saul asked David to do, David did it successfully. So Saul made him a commander over the men of war, an appointment that was welcomed by the people and Saul’s officers alike.

When the victorious Israelite army was returning home after David had killed the Philistine, women from all the towns of Israel came out to meet King Saul. They sang and danced for joy with tambourines and cymbals. This was their song:

“Saul has killed his thousands, and David his ten thousands!”

This made Saul very angry. “What’s this?” he said. “They credit David with ten thousands and me with only thousands. Next they’ll be making him their king!” So from that time on Saul kept a jealous eye on David.

(14-15) David continued to succeed in everything he did, for the Lord was with him. When Saul recognized this, he became even more afraid of him.

√  PRIDE

√  RESENTMENT

√  FEAR

I Samuel 18:20-21 (MSG) Saul’s daughter Michal was in love with David. When Saul was told of this, he rubbed his hands in anticipation. “Ah, a second chance. I’ll use Michal as bait to get David out where the Philistines will kill him.” So again he said to David, “You’re going to be my son-in-law.”

James 4:1-2 (NLT) What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them.

A UNITED HOME

John 17:23 (MSG) The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mind—Just as you, Father, are in me and I in you, so they might be one heart and mind with us. Then the world might believe that you sent me.

I. A CULTURE OF HONOR.

Romans 12:9-10 (NIV) Let love be genuine. Hate what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

√ We believe the best.

Philippians 2:3 (NLT) Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

√  We speak life-giving words.

II. A HEART OF GRATITUDE.

Psalm 138:2-3 (MSG) Thank you! Everything in me says “Thank you!” Angels listen as I sing my thanks. I kneel in worship and say it again: “Thank you!” Thank you for your love, thank you for your faithfulness; Most holy is your name, most holy is your Word. The moment I called out, you stepped in; you made my life large with strength.
