During WWII there was a need for aircraft to be flown to various points across the country. Male pilots were assigned to combat missions. This left a void for this need. Women pilots were hired to continue these flights. They were hired by the U.S. Army Air Corp. as private contractors to fly military aircraft. This is their story. In 1977 President Jimmy Carter signed an executive order to offer these brave pilots veteran's status.
