Our poetic bookends describe apparently mild assaults on trees and a plunge into the overwhelming richness of green winters in Southern California. In between, we return to our New Jersey love letters where Wes and I look at how we think our daughters are turning out--they were 5 and 2 at the time--and how we felt about that. We were serious about raising them well from the moment we first knew we were going to be parents.
