The first readers – first century Jewish Christians who are under attack – were reminded of God’s amazing provision for their forefathers. And were also reminded that they blew it. When the 10 spies talked the people out of following God into the land He had promised, God got angry, declared that their disobedience was the result of a bad heart and stated that they would not enter his rest.
