Ep 18

“What is Orange wine and is it actually made from oranges?”

I think that is the first thing that comes to mind when we hear about Orange wine! It is in fact not made from oranges but from white (or green) grapes.

It actually gets its name from the orange hue of the wine which is a result of leaving the juice of the white grapes in contact with the skins and the seeds of the grapes (a process usually reserved for red wines)!

But does Orange wine taste good? Absolutely! Or at least I certainly think so. Listen in to discover the common aromas and what styles you might want to try.

Don’t miss out as I dive into the unique and fascinating history of Orange Wine and why we have recently seen a resurgence of this wine. Because here’s the thing, while it may feel trendy, Orange wine has been around for centuries. We’ll also discuss how exactly Orange Wine gets that distinct color along with the wide range of styles of Orange Wine since they are not all the same. There are A LOT of decisions when it comes to making Orange Wine such as aromatic or non-aromatic grape varietals, what level or ripeness do they want the grapes to be, and how long do they want the maceration and fermentation process to last.

Are you ready to be captivated by the unique flavors and centuries-old winemaking techniques of Orange Wine? If so, grab a glass of your favorite wine and press play!
