Today, in Episode 21, I want to talk about something that's been on my mind a lot lately because I'm quite the gym enthusiast. I hit the gym about four to five times a week, and some of you who really know me might say even more.
You see, when someone imparts valuable information to me, I feel it's my duty to pass it on to you. So, let's dive into it – the power of exercise. It's crucial for you to understand why exercise matters, especially as you get older, but it applies to all ages. Let's break down the five essential things you need to do or have to see the results of your workout.
1: Exercise helps manage our weight. If we don't exercise, we're likely to gain weight. But if we do, it makes our muscles stronger and helps define our bodies.
2: It's great for muscle and bone health. It keeps our muscles strong and our bones healthy.
3: Exercise reduces cardiovascular concerns. It lowers cholesterol levels, increases blood flow to the brain and heart, and does wonders for our overall health.
4: Mood and Mental Health. As a licensed clinician, I can't stress enough how combining exercise with mental health practices can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Sometimes, my clients say they don't feel like working out, but I tell them to push through because they'll feel better afterward. You have to get out of your own way.
5: The fifth and final aspect is stress management. You need to manage your stress effectively, and exercise plays a crucial role in this.
So, my friends, it's vital to work out and have these five basic elements in place to see results. These results could be looking more defined and feeling great in your clothing. Now, let's discuss the five things you need to incorporate into your routine:
1. Sleep: Ensure you're getting enough rest.
2. Nutrition: Eat five meals a day – breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two healthy snacks.
3. Hydration: Drink plenty of water. Aim for half your body weight in ounces.
4. Exercise: Incorporate regular exercise into your routine, combining cardio and strength training.
5. Stress Management: Make sure you're managing stress effectively.
Remember, your body is the only one you've got, so take care of it. Now, here's your empowerment homework assignment: Get active! Incorporate exercise into your life, even if it's just 30 minutes, three times a week. You can increase the frequency and duration as you see fit. And remember to balance cardio with strength training for optimal results.
