There is a sense of letdown that often hits us once Christmas is over. After the family goes home, the tree comes down, the decorations are put away, and the coffee shops go back to playing regular music – now it’s just winter. I believe this letdown is because we make Christmas about the wrong things. We have given our hearts to the wrong kind of Christmas! And when it’s all over, our hearts are broken. The antidote is to recognize that there is more to Christmas that we ever imagined! The Christmas story is part of an even larger story complete with a terrible villain who is out to get us, the Great Dragon, and our forever hero, the Christ Child. The reason the Christ Child appeared was the throw down this Great Dragon! This matters, not just for these few weeks, but for every day of our lives. It explains why the world is the way it is. And yet it gives us great hope as well. I don’t want you to take my word for it. We need to see it in God’s word. We’ve already heard most of Matthew’s account of Jesus’ birth during this service. Now let’s look at the rest of the story from Matthew 2:13-23.
