I know some of you like to stay up late listening to my podcasts—but I also know that some of those episodes cover serious, sometimes heavy topics. And that’s not always the best way to drift off to sleep.

So I’ve created DreamReads—a quiet corner of the podcast made just for winding down. These are gentle, absorbing stories that won’t keep you up worrying about the world, but might just carry you off to sleep with a little wonder, warmth, and maybe even a touch of enlightenment.

In this first episode, I’d love to introduce you to one of my favourite authors, David Liss, and his gripping yet richly textured novel, A Conspiracy of Paper. Set in 18th-century London, it follows Benjamin Weaver—a former boxer turned private investigator—navigating the smoky streets and shadowy alleys of a city on the brink of modern finance. It’s a story of secrets, suspicion, and subtle intrigue.

So now, wherever you are—whether you’re tucked into bed, lying back on the sofa, or just looking for a few quiet moments—take a deep breath… close your eyes… and let the story begin.
