This summer, our sermon series is called, Written on Your Heart. Each Sunday, we'll hear messages from several young adults in our congregation. They'll be reflecting on a passage of Scripture that has been especially formative for them - one that, by God's Spirit, has shaped their lives in a unique and lasting way. On the podcast, we'll go a step further and sit down with each of them to hear more of their story - how God has been at work in their lives, and how that passage continues to shape who they are.
This week, Ryan Van Hemert joins us to talk through his message exploring Exodus 14 and 1 Corinthians 10. From a story about farmers in Kenya hesitant to trust a new method of farming, to the ancient Israelites asking to go back into slavery at the edge of the Red Sea, Ryan digs into why we so often reach back for old idols even after God has rescued us and what it actually means to believe, and live out of, the new identity we're given in Christ. The conversation also covers identity formation in a generation that cycles through personas, the difference between curated and honest witness, and why baptism is meant to be something categorically different from just another label.
