Getting lost in the deep, dark forest has long been a theme in folklore and fairytales that symbolize the maiden's initiation into womanhood. Part of this journey to the 'underworld' for a woman is to shed her poise and perfection, and become wild and undone. In this episode, Ariel shares her favorite story called "The Handless Maiden" from Women Who Run With the Wolves, along with several tales from her own life of descending into the underworld in order to re-emerge into the next phase of life.
