Welcome to La Jolla Pres Online Worship, we're excited that you're joining us! Today is the second Sunday of Advent, the countdown to Christmas! This year we're looking at Scripture taken from the Advent hymn, Come Thou Long Expected Jesus.

In 1744, as Charles Wesley was reading Haggai 2:7 he looked around at his community. He saw the dire plight of orphans around him, as well as the social divide of the people in Great Britain. He wrote a prayer which eventually became the hymn. He was praying that God would bring deliverance and hope to a troubled and broken society.

We still pray the same sorts of prayers today. This hymn reminds us that a Savior was born for us. A savior who was “Born to set Thy People Free. Born Thy People to Deliver. Born a Child and yet a King. Born to live in us Forever.” During the season of Advent, we celebrate the one who was born for us and brought us abundant and everlasting life.

Today we're looking at Isaiah 8:19-9:7, and the sermon title is, "Born Thy People to Deliver", the prophet Isaiah speaks of, "a great light" that will bring joy to the world. If you would like to connect with our church, you can find our website at ljpres.org. We hope to see lives transformed by a relationship with Jesus, and we strive to be a place where you experience and are able to express that transforming love of Christ. La Jolla Pres holds a CCLI License to live stream and archive all musical material.

It builds our faith to help give back a portion of what God has given us. If you would like to help further His work in La Jolla, San Diego and the world you can give online at LJPres.org/Donate or text 844-957-4017.
