Sometimes people ask why they should consider going on a retreat. A recent study of human happiness concludes that the most significant factor for personal happiness is relationships with others. And what relationship could be more important than your relationship with God? But friendship takes time and needs to be strengthened by conversation.
Couples who have strong marriages will tell you about the importance of getting away for a long weekend to spend time alone in conversation. We need to do the same with God and each other, and that’s why we warmly recommend annual retreats.
The Men’s Retreat is September 7th through 9th at the Lake House Resort in San Marcos. Pastor Brent Eldridge, lead pastor at Arbor Road Church in Long Beach, is speaking about focusing on what it means to be “undivided”. For more information, contact Brady Phelps at bradyphelps@gmail.com.
The Women’s Retreat is October 12th through 14th at the Kona Kai Resort & Spa. The theme is “Prayer: A Pathway to God” Join us to go deeper, make friends, unwind, and have a mountaintop experience by the sea. For more information, contact Cynthia Blase at cblase@ljpres.org.

The annual used book sale fundraiser will be Sunday, September 30th in the Courtyard. This is a great way to share the gift of books and to serve by helping with the book sale. Please drop off your used books ASAP at the Reception Desk or contact Edith Bryant-Aguilar, at edithbryantaguilar@gmail.com to assist before, during and after the sale.
This Fall, we will be offering a Divorce Care class on Wednesdays from September 12th through December 12th, from 6:30 to 8pm in room LC-1. Divorce Care, led by Life Coach and Divorce Recovery Mentor, India Kern, is a support group designed to offer help and guidance one needs while going through the transition of divorce or separation. Also this Fall we will host a Griefshare Class on Thursdays from September 20th through December 20th, from 3:30 to 5pm in room LC-5. Rev.
