Soul Goal #4:
EMPTY THE CONTAINER
"You don't have to control your thoughts; you just have to stop letting them control you.” But where do you begin understanding what your thoughts are even doing to you? Are they building you or breaking you? And how do you separate yourself from being wrapped up in self-talk that is defeating and allowing old patterns to replay in your life on auto pilot?
A valuable tool presented to me during one of my difficult seasons was the use of journaling to release expectations, thoughts, and negative words about myself. Honestly? I hated doing it. It brought really old, musty stuff to the surface. It made me squirm and a bit uncomfortable in the process. But something else happened once I swam out past the breakers of putting that pen to paper: My mind started to empty, started to find space, and began opening up to other possibilities, positive ones that are under the surface for all of us.
How do you feel about journaling? Is it something that you already know and perhaps love? Or is it something you look at and want to hide from? Dixi and I get real about our feelings on it and would love to hear yours, too!
