The role of religion is to create harmony & humanity among people & to develop spirituality. The path shown by various religions is for realising the eternal truth.
Self-realized masters have formed religions for people to understand one another deeply and live a peaceful life. The high intention of Enlightened masters is to guide & lead people towards ultimate truth & liberate them.
As time rolled by, people didn't embody the realized masters' teachings. They conveniently ignored the essence of preaching & had a shallow understanding of religious expositions based on their intellect quotient.
The search for eternal wisdom stopped with knowledge of good/bad within five senses. The 6th sense which is Intellect, 7th sense Atma Gnanam (wisdom), 8th sense - Universe's Higher Intelligence were not explored.
Religion exists to remove man's ignorance and impart the highest wisdom to him. However people introduced many superstitious and irrational practices in the name of religion leading to discrimination among masses. Discrimination feeds ignorance. Realising 'All are one' is true knowledge. Religions were born to spread this true knowledge but today only religions live on, their true essence has vanished.
Only when people transform to understand the purpose of religion & spirituality, human beings can march towards evolving into divine beings.
