Description

The decisions we make today determine our life tomorrow. If we fail to make the right decision, it results in mental distress. In traditional kolam art, a dot (pulli) and a line (kodum) must come together to form a meaningful pattern. Without this connection, the design becomes disordered. Likewise, for life to be harmonious, the woman (dot) and the man (line) must be united.

To understand this, one needs awareness. Some people lack the sense to perceive fragrance. Only if there is sensitivity can there be the awareness to perceive it. Similarly, one may have eyes but lack the awareness of sight; have ears but not the awareness of hearing; have skin but no awareness of touch.

People who lack true sensitivity and awareness at the center of their forehead are referred to as maakal. Maakal means those without true awareness. Makkal, on the other hand, are those who possess true awareness of the self. When awareness transcends the forehead and reaches the crown, such individuals live free from sorrow and worry.
