Charles Hackley envisioned a world-class art museum for Muskegon. Upon his death, he bequeathed a fund to acquire "pictures of the best kind." The Muskegon Museum of Art, dedicated on June 21, 1912, attracted global media attention. After over a century of fulfilling Hackley's vision, the MMA’s permanent collection now rivals those of major metropolitan cities.
