Description

This episode is being published the day before the Thanksgiving holiday, which has me thinking about cultivating a mindset of gratitude as I consider our eventual empty nest.

While I’ll miss my kids terribly when they leave home, whether for college, or gasp, for good (ouch!!), I’ll also be so incredibly grateful that they are pursuing their dreams and becoming independent adults. And while I want to hold on tightly to all the parts of our family life that are beginning to fade away, I'm also looking forward with excitement, and yes gratitude, to opportunities to pursue new things in my own life, including last-minute romantic getaways with my husband.

Later in the episode, I share a gratitude practice I learned a few years back from author Rachel Hollis that has helped me to shift my mindset about gratitude from generic (friends) to very specific (I had a great conversation with a friend today that I haven’t talked to in months and we made plans to see each other for dinner next week.) The key is to find gratitude in experiences that have happened in the last 24 hours. Doing so will train your brain to seek and find positive things throughout your day. It’s a game-changer!
