In this episode of Talking Hospitality, we spoke to Julien Bailly, the founder of Una Bambu in Sri Lanka. Julien shared his journey of transitioning from a career in digital marketing to creating eco-resorts made entirely of bamboo, clay, and natural materials. The main idea behind creating such a sustainable business was the importance of building without damaging the land and involving the local community in the process. Besides building a hotel, Julien developed a sustainable supply chain for bamboo and trained local carpenters in bamboo construction techniques.
Nowadays, we have a critical need for all hotels to explore sustainable building alternatives and engage with local communities to create a more sustainable future for hospitality. The priority should be given to smaller, experiential hotels that foster learning and interaction with the local culture.
