It had long been my dream to become a writer and to live abroad, but I couldn't figure out how to achieve it until I was - almost accidentally - invited to move to Yemen to run a newspaper. In Yemen, I discovered the life I had always wanted - I sold my first book, met my husband, had my daughter. Since then we've lived in Jordan, Bolivia, London, France, and Uzbekistan. It's not always easy (I've been kidnapped, my husband has been attacked by a suicide bomber), but it's never dull.
