This week the Instigator and the Yogi sit down with Dr. Tracy Foose. Dr. Foose is a psychiatrist that is changing how we look at anxiety. Close to 90% of us experience anxiety, and some of us think it will destroy us. Dr. Foose argues that anxiety is the thing that is actually holding us together and keeping us alive.
Dr. Foose served for 9 years as Director of the Anxiety Disorders Program at UCSF Weill's Institute for Neurosciences. So how does such a helpful (albeit uncomfortable) emotion cause us so much distress and impairment? Dr. Foose has spent the last 15 years of her career building the answer to that question.
She talks about the “guard dog” and practical ways to reframe instead of resist. The more we fight against anxiety, the more it will persist.
Anxiety could actually be our one drive to stay alive, rise up and mitigate the dreaded alarm. Listen as we reframe this vital emotion, and share ways to harness its power to our advantage.
Dr. Foose now has a private practice in California specializing in anxiety management. She's also available for speaking opportunities. Check out her website: drfoose.com for availability. Follow her on IG @tracyfoose.m.d
