”Hey, You like Flock of Seagulls?”             “Not as much as you do.” -Tommy Boy

This title is actually a joke from my oldest when he was a kid. My boys were subjected to my love of 80s music, and snarky humor.  One day while this song came on Brody sang it and added “It’s like they think we don’t have a map! Of course Iran is far away.”

-This was my icebreaker when these two strangers then, friends now, Max & Amir stopped by our table to say Hello.

My friend Ashley and I were wrapping up a 2hr conversation that I’m excited/ intimidated to edit and share with you. Her story is definitely one of heartache and resilience. When the guys laughed at the joke and started talking with us so openly about their experiences and viewpoints, I had to start recording. It felt completely fated.

With the Holidays and my own personal struggles to keep hope in this form of expression alive, I “procrastinated” getting this out. Or was it structured by something more Devine than I, to bring you this conversation now?  Again, feels so fated for Jan 2026, Dr. Martin Luther Kings Bday celebration (& 5 days before Amir’s Birthday!) Happy Birthday! Yes, It’s a very Aquarian convo.

I personally keep seeing things like this line up in my life. Maybe it is just for me to experience a little more depth and connectivity that I’ve been so purposefully curating. Yet it feels more like I keep getting supported in my efforts to spread and speak on authentic compassion.

Or maybe it’s the immigrant DNA inside myself from just two generations back that holds this extra soft spot for “outsiders.” My Paternal Grandfather left his home in Canada to start a new life in America, after he met my Grandmother on his Mormon mission. He risked it all for love, Started at the bottom and rose to the top.

He’s lucky not to have been forced from his home and that it was his own choice. Like so many of us Americans- our families didn’t originate here. That’s the beauty, & main intention of The American Dream, in the first place. That’s also what I felt from these men. The ability to be pioneers in their own way and to enjoy a “better”  or just different and unique experience, than what had been done in their family lines too.

… I could talk and write about these things for days. And I do. There’s nothing I love more than sharing my unique perspectives and thoughts with others and hearing the way you all perceive the world around us too.

I hope you enjoy. I hope you feel the heart we all found in connecting a little deeper with another human soul. Not for money, not for power or fame- just genuinely curious, to learn each other and have our voices heard.

I have so much hope for our future, as more of us become comfortable with new experiences and new information. More comfortable inside ourselves even and definitely around those different from us. We have so much to learn from each other.

“Birds of a Feather, we should stick together.”

Would be even cooler for Humans to connect with our flawed and imperfect Humanity, and truly support each others Dreams. American or Beyond!

✌🏼 Peace out & Hugs friends, We will get through this, together.
