As a kid, what did your Mom or Dad tell you to do when you asked how to spell a word?  "Look it up!"  That always annoyed me.  How do I look it up if I don't know how to spell it?!?!?

Spoiler alert - Merriam Webster is not a woman.   Shhhhhh....

• Crazy WORDS that you wouldn't think would be in there
• Long WORDS that make you sound "like you got the smarts real good"
• WORDS taken out because they fell they have lost their usefulness
