Welcome to Part VI of my 8 episode series about my time with WA Police.
In this episode, I take you back to my time in Leonora, a chapter that shaped me in ways I never expected. As my first regional posting, I arrived with the best intentions of bringing peace and connection to the wider community. However, it became the beginning of the end of my career.
The weight of organisational and operational trauma took its toll, marking a turning point I couldn’t ignore. I had to make a decision to leave the station prior to my tenure completion to escape a complete mental breakdown.
But despite the challenges, my time there was also filled with deep respect and learning. I had the privilege of immersing myself in Indigenous culture, forming beautiful friendships and gaining a profound appreciation for the strength and spirit of the community.
Before we begin, I want to issue a gentle caution. Many of the stories I share will be raw, confronting and hard to listen to. But these are just a glimpse into the incidents I faced. But they’re important, because this is the reality of frontline work and it’s time we talk about it.
