Description

Our beliefs shape the lens we see life through but many of them aren’t actually ours. They were placed on us when we were five, six, seven years old, as our little brains were still wiring. Words spoken, experiences endured, and cultural messages absorbed became “truths” that we rarely stop to question. Over time, those beliefs become so ingrained we no longer even recognize them as beliefs they simply feel like who we are. But here’s the gift: they can be changed. At every stage of life, new levels of growth ask us to revisit what we’ve accepted as true and decide if it still serves us.

The frustrating part is that revisiting old beliefs doesn’t happen just once. You can do the healing work, forgive, build new habits, and still feel the same lies resurface when you step into the next version of yourself. I experienced this in my own business journey. For years I believed setting boundaries meant losing clients, so I took on work that wasn’t aligned. When those clients left, I told myself the old story: you’re not good enough, you’re not smart enough. That belief dated back to childhood, but it tried to ride along every time I grew. The shift came when I realized I wasn’t just a transactional bookkeeper I’m a relational bookkeeper, and the clients who value that are the ones I want to serve. Letting go of the misaligned ones created a freedom that no paycheck could match.

The truth is, growth requires us to say hello to those old beliefs every time they appear and choose differently. It’s not about changing who we are it’s about growing into the next level of who we’ve always been. Whether in business, family, or personal dreams, we will keep being asked: What belief am I letting stop me? The courage comes in answering honestly, and then taking action anyway. Because nothing changes unless something changes.
