Welcome to the Love Sweetie Podcast! In this episode, we review four pieces of correspondence from March 1952 - we start with two messages from Sweetie's father, Chester Demaree, M.D., in Lacona, Iowa, and then we continue with Sweetie's narrative on March 20, 1952. The first letter is her family circular in which she notes what's been happening in Doylestown at home. However, it is in the second letter (written on the same day) that we realize that the situation in Iowa with regards to her father's health is very bad, as she writes a secret letter to her brother-in-law, Glen, and her sister, Jeanne, in Des Moines with instructions of what should be done if their father, Chester, might pass away due to the serious issue with his health.
Also, please note that this episode is dedicated to James "Jim" Cassidy, Andrew Cassidy's father. (Andrew has been the narrator for the letters from Sweetie's husband, Lew, since the beginning of the podcast.) We are sad to note that his father, Jim, passed away on April 29, 2026. Jim was very much a lover of history, and he will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to Andrew in this difficult time.

The Love Sweetie Podcast is a unique historical project that features real letters from Kathryn Frances Demaree Graham a.k.a. "Sweetie" that were written during her lifetime. These authentic letters are narrated and commented on by the hosts of the show (who give context on what is being discussed).
It should also be noted that the vernacular in the letters, as disclaimed at the beginning of every episode, are part of the real historic text from 1952, and do not reflect the views of anyone associated with the Podcast, including the creator and the hosts.
