Description

In this Thanksgiving-themed episode of Sermons on the Side, Richard takes us back to a beloved family tradition from when his kids were young: gathering around the TV to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. But for the Moore household, the parade wasn’t just fun entertainment - it marked the official start of Christmas.

Once that final float appeared, carrying Santa himself, and the announcer declared, “Let us be the first to wish you a Merry Christmas,”  the Moore home shifted instantly into Christmas mode. Music on. Candy out. Decorations everywhere. All while still feasting on Thanksgiving dinner.

But woven into this tradition was a funny phrase Richard’s kids repeated whenever they expected Santa… but another marching band rolled through instead:
“Oh no, it’s another band.” Over time it became more than a joke - it became a silly picture of impatience, anticipation, and the ache of waiting for something good.

In this episode, Brad and Richard reflect on how that simple family phrase mirrors our spiritual lives. Whether we’re waiting on a breakthrough, a healing, a relationship, a job opportunity, restored family, or clarity about what’s next - God is present in the waiting. He doesn’t just meet us once “Santa” arrives. He ministers to us through every “another band” moment.

Join us for a heartfelt Thanksgiving conversation on hope, patience, and learning to trust God when life takes longer than we expected.
