The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand. I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. (Psalm 37:23-25 (ESV))
Psalm 37 is a wisdom psalm, offering a contrast between the fate of the wicked and the security of the righteous. David reminds us not to be anxious when evildoers prosper, for their success is temporary (v. 1-2). Instead, believers are called to trust in the Lord (v. 3), delight in Him (v. 4), commit their way to Him (v. 5), and be still before Him (v. 7).
One of the most reassuring promises in this Psalm is that God upholds His people. Verse 25 declares that the righteous are never forsaken. This doesn’t mean believers won’t face trials, but that God will sustain them. His faithfulness is unwavering, and He ensures His children are never ultimately abandoned.
