True power does not come from getting what we want but instead comes from yielding to God so that His power can work through us. Any power gained through human means is fleeting, while lasting power comes from obedience to God’s word and instructions. We see this truth at work in the juxtaposition of Saul, who would do anything to maintain his kingly power, and David, who was not willing to jeopardize his long-term destiny by disobeying God’s instructions. The idols of power, control and greed promise to give you what you want NOW, but they will cost you what you want MOST. Where do you allow the idol of power to tempt you into disobeying God? It is time for a deep clean.
