That threw me off
When we say “that threw me off,” we mean: something unexpected disrupted my focus, mood, or rhythm. It doesn’t have to be a big problem — just something that interrupts your flow.
Examples:
1- He was confident during the presentation,
until someone asked an unexpected question. He paused for a second and later said, “That question threw me off.”
2- He was speaking English smoothly until he suddenly forgot a word he knew well. That moment of doubt threw him off, even though he quickly recovered.
